In 2015, both Burnie and Devonport Clubs had rejoined and by this time there were 8 teams in the NWFL.

AFLW is launched as an eight team competition, comprising Adelaide Crows, Brisbane Lions, Carlton, Collingwood, Fremantle, GWS Giants, Melbourne and Western Bulldogs.

The final season had only two teams competing in 12 home-and-away matches and the grand final. Winnaleagh won all games beating Scottsdale Crows.

Both Bridport and East Coast Swans Football Clubs joined the Association in 2017.

In 2018 the NTFA made a modest change to its two competitions by altering their titles: Division One became Premier Division and Division 2 became Division 1.

AFLW expanded to ten teams with Geelong Cats and North Melbourne. 

AFLW expanded to 14 teams with addition of Gold Coast Suns, Richmond, St. Kilda, and West Coast Eagles.

AFLW expanded to 18 teams with addition of Essendon, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and Sydney Swans.
